Matthew Byrne comes from Canada and from a musical family. Both his parents are fine singers and collectors of songs from various traditions.

His music has travelled well beyond the rugged shores of his Newfoundland home since his 2010 debut, Ballads. Touring as both a solo artist as well as singer with The Dardanelles, he has graced major festival stages worldwide. With his second album, Hearts & Heroes, receiving Traditional Recording of the Year at the 2015 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Byrne has established himself as one of Canada’s most authentic and vital traditional voices.0

Matthew’s third album, Horizon Lines, was released domestically in August of 2017 and in the UK on Tom Sweeney’s RootBeat label in May of 2018.

“His reverence and respect for his material, along with his unabashed exploration of new songs and his staggeringly beautiful voice, makes for the rarest and most vital folk performer.” ~ TOM POWER, CBC MUSIC

“Matt’s interpretation of traditional songs is somehow fresh and ancient at the same time. And his voice is friggin’ perfect.” ~ ALAN DOYLE

“A voice as true as a compass needle.” ~ JAMES KEELAGHAN

Gates open 5.30pm to give an opportunity to see the gardens and get food and drink.  Mathew’s first set will be at 6.15pm to 7pm. Interval 7pm to 7.30pm. Second set 7.30pm to about 8.15pm.

We put on our Gigs at the Greenhouses to let people hear brilliant music, enjoy our lovely gardens and to raise money so that the community can benefit from BPCG 7 days a week.
