Grayshott Folk Club
SATURDAY 23rd April 2016 @ 7.30pm Grayshott Village Hall GU26 6TZ St George’s Day Barn Dance with: JIGALOTS (https://jigalots.wordpress.com)
Grayshott Folk Club held its very first Barn Dance/Ceilidh at the Village Hall on November 20th 2015 and it proved to be a great success. We had an enthusiastic audience made up of people of all ages and levels of expertise, from the absolute beginners to those who were able to showcase their dancing talents for the rest of us at the end of the evening. Everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Spurred on by this success, we have decided to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s passing and St. George’s Day with another Barn Dance.
This time music will be provided by JIGALOTS and they have invited Bridget Flett to call the dances for us all. Bridget is a sympathetic and patient caller and she will explain everything very clearly for every dance. The members of Jigalots play a fascinating range of instruments, including pipe and tabor, hurdy gurdy, rauschpfeife, clarinet, melodeon and fiddle, and, as each of them is an enthusiastic dancer themselves, the music they play is irresistibly danceable.
Tonight’s Barn Dance will be for dancers of all ages, generations and for all abilities, with a particular emphasis on the inexperienced or novice dancer. It’s not a competition but simply a way to enjoy music and rhythm and an opportunity to share the joy of dancing together with kindred spirits. Come with a whole group of friends or come on your own. We always extend a warm welcome to newcomers and there is absolutely no obligation to dance but if you want to get involved, we’ll match you up with partners and hope that you make new friends, as we all strut our stuff to some wonderful music under the guidance of an experienced and supportive caller.
