Leading Welsh band Allan Yn Y Fan are delighted, thanks to the support of Arts Council of Wales “Night Out” scheme, to be performing two joint concerts with Scotland’s leading folk song group Malinky on Thursday 8th June (Newbridge Memo) and Friday 9th June (Victoria Hall, Llanwrtyd Wells).
Malinky comprise three superb singers and instrumentalists in Steve Byrne (founder member) , Mark Dunlop from Northern Ireland and Scots singer of the year in the 2015 Scots Trad Music Awards, Fiona Hunter, together with renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Vass.
Their 2015 album “Far Better Days” produced by long- time friend Donald Shaw was hailed by the media :- 5* “Magnificent…a master-class in arrangement..another great release from one of Scotland’s finest.” R2 Magazine; “Full of grit and passion…a sweet and beautiful album.” Songlines
Meanwhile, their Welsh hosts Allan Yn Y Fan unveiled the new sextet last year, undertook another successful tour of Germany as well as performing at a number of the UK’s prestigious folk festivals. Over the winter the band have been concentrating on making their sixth album whilst, understandably, their lead singer Catrin O’Neill has also been rather pre-occupied with the birth of her son! These dates mark AYYF’s return to the stage in their home country just preceded by their premiere performance at Shepley Spring Festival in Yorkshire on 21st/22nd May.
These two concerts give audiences in Newbridge and Llanwrtyd Wells a rare opportunity to catch two flag bearers of the best in traditional music for their two nations. Tickets are available now from the box offices/websites detailed below.
The bands are pleased to acknowledge the funding support provided by “Night Out.” www.nightout.org.uk
