Red Sky July & Beth Nielsen Chapman team up for Christmas single

‘Save Christmas Day For Me’

Single Release – December 11 2015
On Shadowbirds Records

Award-winning Americana trio Red Sky July are releasing an atmospheric, beautifully orchestrated single for Christmas featuring Beth Nielsen Chapman. To celebrate the release, the band will be playing a special one-off Christmas show at the Green Note in Camden on December 11.

“I picked up Ally’s new Buddy Holly guitar on a Saturday morning and it came out. Just came out! Easy….like Father Christmas had done it for me! I love Christmas and spending it with my family and, although everyone is busy with work and touring in the run up, I love knowing that we will all be home together for Christmas” explains Shelly.

Red Sky July are a London based trio comprised of husband and wife Ally McErlaine (guitarist from Texas) and Shelly Poole (Alisha’s Attic), with Charity Hair (The Alice Band and latterly The Ailerons, with Blur’s Dave Rowntree). Accomplished Nashville singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman contributes vocals to the recording to add another layer of delicate vocal harmony.

Their sound is a hazy blend of Americana and alt-country, a stripped back set-up of acoustic guitar and vocals allowing lush melodies and rich harmonies to come to the fore. The band have been playlisted on BBC Radio 2, and have supported many prestigious artists such as Sheryl Crow, 10CC, Tom Jones and Jools Holland. Festivals they have performed at include T in the Park, Isle of Wight and Glastonbury.

2009’s self-titled debut garnered the praise of the critics including excellent reviews from Q Magazine, the Evening Standard and The Daily Telegraph, with Q describing the album as “a timeless blend of vocals & intricate twang…. As atmospheric as it is emotional”.

2014’s ‘Shadowbirds’ came straight in at No. 3 in the UK Country Charts, with Maverick describing it as “a beautiful slice of alt-country showcasing sunny songs and gorgeous harmonies. 5/5”. The band’s achievements were recognised at the Scottish Music Awards where they were presented with a prestigious Tartan Clef award by Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
